Say this for Clemson: When the Tigers go to the Orange Bowl, they put on an unforgettable show. National champions, 30 years ago. Simply embarrassed, this time around. Clemson allowed 35 points in the second quarter alone, on the way to allowing the most points given up in any bowl game ever played — a 70-33 loss to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl on Wednesday night.

Aretha Franklin was recording her “Jump To It” album with Luther Vandross producing when I spent some time with her in the studio for a Today Show “On the Record” segment. She played the piano & sang some gospel tunes for me, told me about the first song she learned to play, and then we filmed her laying down the vocal for “This is for Real”. Either I screwed up the title in the story or the song had a different working title at the time. We all looked a lot younger in '81 or '82 when this was recorded including Chris Wallace who was hosting the Today Show then.

Kim Jong Il is dead www.thehalsreport.com Kim Jong Il, the leader of North Korea has died. He was 69. He died on a train trip, a tearful state television announcer dressed in black, reported Monday. It is believed Kim Jong Il suffered a stroke in 2008 but appeared healthy recently in photos and video from recent trips to China and Russia. Kim Jong Il was groomed for over 20 years to lead the communist nation of North Korea which was founded by his father. News is now coming out of North Korea claiming there may be a behind-the-scenes power struggle or nuclear instability following Kim Jung Ills death. Since the country is isolated from the outside world, there is not much known about the man known as the “Dear Leader.” Soviet records indicate he was born in Siberia in 1941. Kim Jong Il, a graduate of Pyongyang's Kim Il Sung University, was 33 when his father anointed him his eventual successor. Kim Jong Il took over in 1994 after his father died. He carried on his fathers tradition of “military first,” devoting much of the country's scarce resources to its troops. During this time, millions of North Korean citizens starved. It is reported that North Korea has been unable to feed its own people and is desperate for aid. The news of Kim Jong Ils death will bring some fears to the region concerning the countries stability and nuclear arsenol. This is a developing story, stay tuned for news updates.

Katie Couric is back on the market again! Hey everyone this is Nora Gasparian for HOllyscoop. Our favorite cougar, Katie Couric has split from her boyfriend of 5 years, Brooks Perlin. Katie is 56 and Brooks is only 37 years old and the reason they split is because they were reportedly “at different stages in their careers” Well she is almost 20 years ahead of him with her career. The two met at a fundraising event back in 2006 and they were together ever since. Don't get any ideas though. There is no bad blood between these two. A friend of Katie's says, “Brooks is a good guy but there is a time for each relationship — and the time is past for this one.” I'm thinking Katie should go younger for the next one. What do you guys think?
