However the day in which Jack feared, been sent to war, draws closer and he gets called up for training yet all the time he is thinking of Pauline and how she must be feeling. Then the day he dreaded comes, he is going to be sent to war, he can't tell Pauline so he just leaves her. He believes Pauline can do better than himself, because all that he is doing is lying and by going to war leaving her without a goodbye. Told from Jacks Point of view.
